The Black Graduate Student Union (BGSU) at Maryland Institute College of Art dedicates itself to foster community, advocacy, and excellence among Black graduate and professional students. We are committed to creating spaces that affirm and uplift the diverse identities, voices, and experiences within the Black diaspora. We advocate for equity and inclusion within the university and broader community while building networks of support that extend beyond graduation and the classroom.

The Mission of the Brown Asian Student Union (BASU) is to share the diversity of cultures across South Asia, Southeast Asia, West Asia, Central Asia, The West Indies, and other such Asian ethnic groups that exist within the MICA Community. Working in tandem with the Office of Mission & Community Learning, we want to provide spaces for discussions on the intersection of these rich cultural histories and traditions. The organization is open to anyone interested in learning broadly about our cultures and their role in America.

The Chess and Board Games Club is a friendly space for everyone who enjoys playing chess and other board games. Everyone from the MICA community is welcome to join and hang out here, whether you'd like to learn how to play, improve your skills, or just want to have a cup of tea. We aim to promote not only Chess, but also other cool yet lesser-known games like Shogi and Xiangqi to wider audiences and give these more traditional board games the attention they deserve, and figure out how to make them thrive in this new age of the digital. We will host events such as learning how to play a new game and (hopefully) tournaments, so stay around and check them out!

The mission of the MICA Chinese Students and Scholars Association is to build an inclusive, supportive, and creative community for Chinese students and scholars at MICA. We are dedicated to helping students adapt to campus life, encouraging artistic collaboration, and fostering meaningful connections through social events, professional networking, and community engagement.

At the same time, CSSA is committed to promoting Chinese traditional culture, arts, and festivals to the broader campus community. Through cultural celebrations, exhibitions, workshops, and public events such as Lunar New Year, Mid-Autumn Festival, and Dragon Boat Festival activities, we aim to create opportunities for cross-cultural exchange and deepen understanding and appreciation of Chinese heritage within MICA’s diverse environment.

Club J serves to create a community around the TC2 loom, providing workshops and demos, materials for the loom, covering warp costs for members, and hosting events such as artist talks or field trips related to the Jacquard loom. The club ensures that the art of Jacquard weaving is preserved, shared, and uplifted at MICA.

Fibers Club is a place for anyone who enjoys working with fibers. Anything from crochet, knitting, needle felting, sewing, and more is encouraged! We want to create a space for fiber hobbyists to meet, chat, and work on projects together, and potentially create community events for swapping supplies, exploring Baltimore places, and communal craft hours. Anyone interested in delving into fibers is welcome to come around!

MICA InterVarsity hopes to create a community for members of MICA who are Christian or interested in exploring faith. We believe it is important to have a space where students, Christian or not, can help and take care of each other. We hope to achieve this by having weekly meetings for Bible study and/or prayer, and more informal gatherings where we just hang out. MICA Start aspires to be the home of anything game-related in the MICA community! We believe that both casuals and hardcore gaming fans alike deserve a place to unite and engage with their favorite gaming media. We achieve this by hosting themed collaborative events (such as gaming tournaments, watch parties, TCG nights, and board game nights), holding community and constantly communicating in our club Discord server, and, newly, informing club members with current up-to-date gaming news via short-form video content. Transfer students make up an important part of the MICA population, bringing their unique educational paths and valuable perspectives to our community. Just this past year, we had around 100 new incoming transfer students join our community.
However, they have a unique set of needs and challenges. Many transfer students end up dealing with social or mental health challenges after transitioning to a new environment, have a more difficult time relating to their peers who are on a traditional four-year path, are commuters, are less aware of the resources available to them, and more. TSC aims to better support and enrich the experiences of transfers here at MICA.
